Occupational Summary
Perform journeyman level work in the maintenance and repair of roofs, to include asphalt, slate, tile, shingle and sheet metal coverings.
Work Performed
Perform journeyman level work in the repair of asphalt, rubber, slate, tile, shingle and sheetmetal coverings, to include the removal, replacement and fabrication of appropriate materials.
Inspect roofs for leaks, rust, missing shingles, damage and structural weakness; participate in scheduled preventative maintenance programs to diagnose and troubleshoot roofing problems.
Determine type, gauge and amount of material required for performance of work. Assemble, install and inspect gutters, downspouts, flashings and other roofing materials.
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and work orders in accordance with assigned work; provide technical guidance and direction to lower level employees.
Coordinate and supervise contractors' roof repairs; ensure compliance to instructions. Construct, install, alter and repair sheetmetal products and equipment to include ducts and hoods; solder and bolt connections; apply insulation as required.
Make work assignments; review work of lower level employees; assist in training new personnel.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with shop work courses.
Experience
Work requires four years of progressive experience in the roofing trade to acquire skills related to roofing repair and sheet metal fabrication.
