Occupational Summary

Evaluate and participate in a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures for patients with respiratory related difficulties in accordance with physician's orders; perform the more complex respiratory therapy mechanical ventilator procedures.

Work Performed

Triage sleep calls and respond to patient concerns regarding troubleshooting sleep apnea/CPAP questions or faxing any missing documentation to DME vendors. Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient needs and tee up information for patients appointment with the provider.

Fax new prescriptions for PAP devices along with supporting documentation (demographic sheets, diagnostic sleep study, PAP titration study, sleep clinic notes, and referring providers note in which the diagnostic sleep study is ordered) FAX or send in EPIC to DME vendors orders for PAP supplies, changes to CPAP settings, and other miscellaneous requests regarding PAP use (e.g. documenting changes we made) (Note: New orders for CPAP devices and supplies are sent in EPIC by provider via letters in the communications tab, electronically routed by EPIC) FAX referrals for oral appliances to dentists (requires supporting documentation as above)

Shadow sleep provider in clinic and troubleshoot patient issues with PAP devices, including fine tuning PAP settings and headgear adjustments. Perform PAP mask fittings, troubleshoot equipment issues. Oversee and perform difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions under the direction of the provider.

Fax signed documentation (CMN forms, other PAP related documentation) to DME vendors. Call DME vendors to resolve issues regarding supplies or PAP setup. Print download reports for each patient in sleep clinic or review them online and enter as an addendum to the most recent visit for provider prior to each encounter. Call DME vendors to have them assign patients in AirView as necessary. Review faxed CPAP downloads and enter summary reports in the patients chart. Adjust settings as needed. Set up peer-to-peer reviews with insurance companies for provider; Set up meetings with DME reps; Schedule urgent overbook sleep appointments. Fax prescription refill requests to pharmacies

Required Qualifications at this Level


Work requires education generally acquired through an associate's degree in a field of biological or physiological sciences or equivalent experience in a biological or psychological field; National Board Registration in one or more of three areas: EEG, Evoked Potential, Polysomnography.


Work requires one year of experience in biological or psychological fields related to the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
