Occupational Summary

The EVS Lead Worker is a regular assignment for selected staff. Such an assignment is based on identified leadership criteria. The EVS Lead Worker has the responsibility and accountability for facilitating and participating in the delivery of quality care and services during a designated shift.

The EVS Lead Worker reflects the mission, vision, and values of Duke Medicine and adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Lead and monitor activities performed by appropriately assigned EVS staff. Help to ensure that the environment is clean, attractive, safe and free from hazards for patients, staff and visitors. Facilitate EVS staff understanding of departmental performance standards.

Work Performed

Perform all jobs responsibilities under all EVS job classifications as required

Coach, mentor and work with EVS employees in their specific work areas.

Monitor quality of work performed by assigned EVS employees.

Complete a brief daily shift report to the supervisor or manager regarding operational issues or concerns that occurred during the shift.

Ensure the proper use of EVS supplies and equipment.

Assist in maintaining the cleaning standards established by Duke Medicine and the EVS Department.

Ensure compliance with the required work procedures and schedules established by the EVS program.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED required. Work requires the ability to read and comprehend basic instructions and write basic reports.

(Internal candidates must have no disciplinary actions and must meet or exceed overall expectations on the department's development plan.)

Experience

Work requires at least two years EVS experience and successful completion of the Coordinator Orientation Courses

Skills

Must possess strong leadership, planning, organizational, problem- solving and communication skills. Moving and lifting involved. Ability to work as a team member Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to perform duties requiring reasonable continuous physical effort Manual dexterity Appropriate interpersonal skills which includes clear communication and courtesy towards patients, families and co-workers
