Occupational Summary

Perform journeyman level construction, installation, alteration and repair of sheet metal products and equipment in accordance with blueprints, drawings and work orders; provide technical guidance and direction to lower level employees.

Work Performed

Perform journeyman level construction, installation, alteration and repair of sheet metal products and equipment such as ducts and hoods for heating, airconditioning and exhaust systems through the use of blueprints, drawings and work orders.

Determine type, gauge and amount of material required for performance of work.

Coordinate and participate in the setting up and operation of equipment such as power saws, drill presses, hand and power shears, pan and box brakes, lockformers, cleat benders, and rollers to cut, punch, thread and form sheet metal.

Assemble ducts, hoods and other sheet metal products; solder and bolt connections; apply insulation as required; inspect assemblies and installation for conformance with specifications.

Perform operational checks of ducts and other sheet metal installations to determine corrective action to be taken, including maintenance and repair. Follow a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Campus Only

Perform journeyman level roofing repairing work on a variety of roofing materials; form, assemble, install, and inspect gutters, downspouts, flashing, and other sheet metal roofing materials.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with course work in skilled crafts or trades training.

Experience

Work requires 4 years of experience in sheet metal installation and fabrication and assembling hoods and sheet metal air-conditioning and heating units.
