Occupational Summary
The Lead Recycler performs semi-skilled work involving manual collection, separation and shipping of recyclable materials collected from the University. In addition, the Lead Recycler acts as a liaison between the Recycling Coordinator and the Recyclers, disseminating information and assignments and ensuring completion of special assignments.
Work Performed
Follows a daily schedule of recycling collection from various University facilities.
Works independently on his/her route, while maintaining a level of flexibility to attend to special assignments that are received each day.
Communicates vehicle condition, route challenges, staff concerns and collection data to the Recycling Coordinator every day
Assists with the provision of adequate tools, equipment and supplies for the job duties of the entire staff
Oversees the operation and cleanliness of the Recycling vehicles and equipment, as well as the warehouse and Recycling facilities
Responsible for coordination of materials pick up and scheduling support for special events
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
This position requires the ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions and communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals. A thorough knowledge of all recyclable materials, routes, buildings and pickup locations is necessary, as well as an understanding of all operational aspects of the Recycling department. He/she must have the ability to operate trucks and heavy motorized equipment such as a forklift. This position requires physical strength, stamina, agility and the ability to work in extreme weather conditions year round.
Experience
This position requires a valid North Carolina driver's license and compliance with the Duke University Fleet Safety Policy.
