Occupational Summary

Under supervision of the Emergency Communications Manager, to act as a lead worker by training and mentoring other emergency communications staff; The Lead Emergency Communications Officer (Lead ECO) is expected to perform lead supervisory responsibilities at the direction of the Emergency Communications Manager; to train and complete written documentation on the progress of assigned trainee; perform all telecommunicator-related duties as described in the Emergency Communications Officer job description; complete assigned Department of Justice audits of records entered into DCIN/NCIC.

Work Performed

Perform the essential functions of an Emergency Communications Officer (ECO) and Communications Training Officer (CTO).

Assist with coordinating work schedules and provide lead supervision of employees during assigned shifts.

Audit and maintain DCIN/NCIC files.

May complete Supervisor Notes and Observations, memorandums documenting ECOs' performance.

Assist in one on one training of ECO Trainees.

Complete Daily Observation Reports on assigned trainees.

Compile reports of events handled and personnel involved.

Maintain confidentiality of all data from internal and external customers.

Access telephone and radio recordings and assemble call review files to submit to the ECC Manager to assist in reviewing commendations, complaints, emergency and routine call handling for quality assurance purposes.

Assists in evaluating performance of Emergency Communications Staff by providing input to the evaluating supervisor.

Makes decisions as to correct action to be taken when unusual circumstances arise in the communications center.

Performs first line troubleshooting of equipment problems in the communications center; contacts appropriate repair technicians.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires comprehension and communications skills normally acquired through a high school education.

DCIN certified in modules 1-3, or obtain certification within 6 months of position assignment. Successful completion of the 47-hour telecommunicator certification course, or successful completion within 6 months of position assignment. Communications Training Officer (CTO) certified, or successfully become CTO certified within 6 months of position assignment.

Experience

Three years of experience as a DUPD Emergency Communications Officer.
