Occupational Summary

Lead and participate in the layout, construction, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of the Duke University high voltage electrical distribution facilities.

Work Performed

-Lead and participate in the layout, construction, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of the Duke University high voltage electrical distribution facilities by interpreting blueprints, plans and specifications, catalog data, and written or verbal instructions.

-Lead the installation of related facilities for other departments such as, but not limited to sports lighting, public lighting, traffic control lighting, telephone outside plant, major renovations and modifications, and underground heavy construction.

-Plan, provide materials and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space, materials and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

-Assist in the establishment of safety program and preventative maintenance programs for the University's high voltage electrical systems and facilities.

-Assist in the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

-Train and instruct new employees; conduct classes and provide on-job training for lower level employees.

-Supervise the shop in the absence of the lead supervisor.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

-Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

-Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.

-Received First Aid and CPR training.

-Received training on the use of portable fire extinguisher.

-Received training on fire safety.

-Received training on OSHA standards for lockout/tagout procedures.

-Received training on safety in the following areas: high voltage, low voltage, and street lighting work.

-Possess an electrical license or department certification.

-Received training on emergency response.

-Received leadership training.

Experience

Must have 8 years of experience in a high voltage environment.
