Occupational Summary

Perform various duties in the pruning, spraying, and painting or tarring of Duke University trees and shrubs.

Work Performed

Prune dead and excess branches from trees and shrubs including the topping of tall trees.

Treat diseased or damaged trees or shrubbery with paint, tar or other chemicals in order to facilitate growth. Spray trees, shrubs and lawns with chemicals including the mixing of such solutions.

Operate such equipment as chain saws, power saws, pole pruner, and pole saws in the cutting and pruning of trees and shrubs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to understand and follow instructions generally acquired through a partial high school education.

Experience

Work requires six months experience with small landscaping power tools and equipment.
