Occupational Summary
Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on systems including plumbing, electrical, heating, refrigeration, general A/C, carpentry, masonry, paint and glass.
Work Performed
Clean mechanical rooms, pick up and deliver parts. Assist other mechanics as required/directed. Perform other related duties incidental to the work herein. Perform basic calculations and conversions. Perform basic maintenance tasks given by higher level mechanic and/or supervisor. Use hand and power tools associated with the trade. Perform basic maintenance repairs on systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, paint and glass. Ability to fill out paperwork including but not limited to work orders, inventory and preventive maintenance forms. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot buildings and components. Maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and components including but not limited to faucets, water coolers, urinals, commodes and automatic flush valves. Perform preventive maintenance and repair of window appliances. Maintenance and repair of electrical components including but not limited to receptacles, switches, lighting fixtures and lighting ballasts. Perform preventive maintenance and repair of door closures, locks, panic bars and piano hinges. Maintenance and repair of various woods, materials, fasteners and adhesives. Maintenance and repair of windows, skylights, exterior doors, weather-stripping and locksets. Use electrical test equipment in maintenance of electrical systems. Maintenance and troubleshoot fuses and circuit breakers. Maintenance and repair of various types of lamps and lighting fixtures. Select and properly use lubrication in maintenance of equipment. Mix and apply mortar when required. Apply paints and coatings using brushing and rolling techniques. Maintenance and repair of plastic piping and fittings used in the plumbing trade. Installation and maintenance of various types of doors and hardware. Installation and maintenance of various types of interior trim for windows, doors, floors and ceilings. Identify and repair common problems associated with concrete. Maintenance and repair of commercial, industrial and residential wiring. Installation, maintenance and repair of incandescent, fluorescent and HID lamps including ballasts and components. Installation, maintenance and repair of grout and other types of reinforcement. Apply sealants and fillers. Identify and correct common problems associated with painting. Analyze/troubleshoot maintenance and repair of copper piping and fittings. Maintenance and repair of various types of plumbing fixtures and faucets.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a high school education with course work in skilled crafts, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Received training on knowledge of general OSHA standards. Received training on use of portable fire extinguisher. Received training on hazardous waste awareness. Received training on OSHA standards for lockout/tag out procedures. Received training on fire safety. Received training on fall protection. Received training on blueprint reading. Satisfied testing requirements of 'Wheels of Learning' Curriculum for GMM, Level 6.
