Occupational Summary

Perform all levels of installation, repair and maintenance of water, sewage, drainage, air, gas and vacuum systems and related equipment and facilities in accordance with pertinent state and local codes; provide technical guidance and direction to Duke or contract labor.

Work Performed

Install, connect and test plumbing fixtures such as urinals, water closets, wash basins, sinks, drinking fountains, compressed air fixtures, and such gas fired equipment as heat furnaces, boilers, and processing tanks.

Monitor and troubleshoot plumbing problems and breakdowns by diagnosing trouble and repairing, replacing or taking other corrective action of such systems or equipment.

Install and/or maintain sterilizers, washers, glass washers, institutional kitchen equipment, operating room tables, swimming pool systems, mixing valves, water softeners, grease pits and special equipment.

Determine routing of pipe and location of plumbing fixtures, accessories and equipment by following and adhering to trade practice specifications, blueprints, sketches and codes.

Indicate lines and points on walls, floors, ceiling and open areas or set stakes to locate pipe routes, inlets, outlets, connections, fixtures and equipment; prepare working sketch as required.

Complete required documentation to include, but not limited to, work order forms, inventory/order forms, and preventive maintenance documents; use computer software as applicable to plumbing maintenance or construction activities.

Follow a predetermined schedule of preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment. Review related documents and evaluate compliance to standards and codes. Analyze systems or components and recommend proper corrective actions when needed. Provide technical guidance and direction to other Duke personnel or contract labor.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires a Class 1 plumbing license issued by the State Board of Examiners for Heating, Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers for North Carolina. Valid N.C. Driver's license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy.

Experience

Four years minimum experience in the plumbing trade in the installation and or repair and maintenance of plumbing systems and equipment.
