Occupational Summary

Coordinate and participate in a variety of duties involved in the collection, interpretation and documentation of data on prospective donors in support of research and/or information gathering activities.

Work Performed

Coordinate and participate in a variety of duties involved in collecting, interpreting, documenting and summarizing descriptive, analytical and evaluative data on prospective donors in support of development research and/or information gathering activities.

Establish procedures and devise strategies for, and participate in, the procurement of data using various research methods to include telephone and personal interviews, electronic database searches and on-site investigations; monitor news sources to track donors, prospects and fundraising opportunities. Coordinate departmental computer utilization to ensure efficient and cost-effective use; assist staff members with questions and problems; maintain liaison with appropriate data processing personnel to ensure proper system operation. Conduct library research; analyze various records, journals and other sources to include estate and tax records, stockholdings, family histories, and financial and company records; follow established procedures for analysis of financial and biographical information. Identify new prospects and suggest approach strategies and areas of giving for prospects to Development staff.

Present information in a variety of written formats to include reports, summaries and abstracts; make graphic representation as required.

Devise strategies to conduct a variety of investigations; write and revise procedures as required. Advise Development Officers concerning requests for donor information and questions.

In the absence of the Coordinator, Development Research, answer calls and requests for prospect information, make work assignments and set priorities of lower level employees, and perform other related duties as appropriate.

Review the work of lower level employees; assist in the training of new personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to independently conduct prospect research and information gathering and reporting activities, generally acquired through a bachelor's degree.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience as a prospect research technician or related position.
