Occupational Summary

Analyze heating, cooling and ventilating systems to determine optimum operating conditions and procedures; assist in the design and development of new or modified HVAC systems to achieve more uniform heating and cooling or energy conservation.

Work Performed

Take and record measurements and other data for use in determining optimum operating conditions for existing heating, cooling and ventilation systems; monitor equipment operation, update service requirements and recommend system adjustments to ensure most economical and effective operation. Provide technical advice and assistance in the installation and maintenance of electric and pneumatic control systems through the interpretation of a variety of mechanical and electrical drawings.

Monitor and coordinate operation of the central control and data system including the extension, maintenance and contract work required to provide data and services.

Coordinate design and development of long-range modifications, renovations and/or alterations to building systems with professional engineering staff to achieve efficient energy consumption.

Participate in the development of preventive maintenance schedules for heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Prepare a variety of operational, financial and statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Prepare and maintain accurate control diagrams for building HVAC systems.

Make recommendations regarding corrections to recurring equipment failures. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a technical background in Electronics normally acquired through a two year Associate degree program in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to become familiar with the analysis of energy control systems.

Experience

Work requires a knowledge of control systems normally acquired through 4 years of experience in the installation, inspection, testing and repair of pneumatic, electrical and electronic control systems.
