Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of security-related duties for the containment facility.

Work Performed

In addition to regular DUPD Security duties and responsibilities:

Perform containment facility security-related duties including patrolling and securing containment facility interior and exterior areas.

Respond to emergency and non-emergency containment facility security issues and document on appropriate GHRB and DUPD Reports.

Monitor and maintain containment facility access system.

Operate and validate containment facility Digital Video Recorders.

Prepare and maintain visitor access log, monitor containment facility alarms, monitor Proximity/Smart card readers, pin stations, and biometric devises. Fingerprint members needing access to GHRB per relevant Federal Laws & CDC Select Agent Guidelines and mail FBI Security Risk Assessment packets.

Respond to medical, emergency, radiological/biological/ chemical materials incidents requiring BSL-2 and BSL-3 protective gear per GHRB Standard Operating Procedures.

Operate containment facility security software to include running reports and modifying access to facility.

Perform vehicle/visitor screening procedures in accordance with Select Agent Rules 42 CFR Part 73.

Assist with development of scenarios and participate in GHRB drills.

Work DUPD Special Events and perform other security-related duties and tasks as directed.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

High School Diploma or GED, valid North Carolina Driver's license is required. Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver's License.

Pass or achieve an acceptable score on all pre-employment screening.

Pass an extensive background investigation.

Continued employment is contingent upon successful attainment and ability to perform duties associated with job related certifications (CPR, IHASS, first aid, etc.) within the timeframe established by the department.

Successfully achieve FBI Security Risk Assessment approval within 90 days of hire. CFS assigned to the GHRB are required to demonstrate proficiency in the following additional areas: Annual mandatory training in lab safety awareness for security personnel in BSL-3 containment, annual mandatory select agent awareness training (must attain 80% on written test); proper response to radiological/biological/ chemical materials incidents; recognizing and responding to medical and emergency incidents per GHRB Standard Operating Procedures; ability to wear BSL-3 protective gear and don within five minutes, operation and validation Digital Video Recorders; door locking systems and alarm systems; monitoring and operation of Proximity/Smart card readers with pin stations and biometric devises; fingerprinting of GHRB registrants per relevant Federal Laws & CDC Select Agent Guidelines, proficiency (within 90 days) in the operation of security software to include running reports and modifying access to facility, and proficiency (within 90 days) in vehicle/visitor screening procedures in accordance with Select Agent Rules 42 CFR Part 73.

Experience

Prior military, law enforcement, or armed security experience preferred. Experience using personal computers including strong familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Windows applications.
