Occupational Summary
Operate two-way radio and switchboard to receive and transmit information concerning Security/Safety Escort Programs activities.
Work Performed
Operate two-way radio and switchboard to receive and transmit radio and telephone messages to Security/Safety Drivers and University Public Safety in accordance with Federal Communications Commission regulations and departmental operations procedure; determine priority of calls received and assign calls to appropriate drivers. Maintain daily log of all incoming and outgoing radio messages; ensure radio logs adhere to the Federal Communications Commission regulations.
Provide information about the Security/Safety Escort Programs to employees and the general public; relay a variety of information relative to Security/Safety activities to appropriate personnel; maintain liaison with campus Public Safety regarding problems.
Act as lead worker to coordinate the activities of the Security/Safety Drivers on a given shift; schedule work and notify drivers of duty; post assignments and information on a dispatch board.
Issue regular and special equipment to drivers as appropriate; ensure all equipment is in working order and recommend equipment repair or replacement as needed.
Record a variety of data and maintain a file of reports, forms, records, complaints, and daily log.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires the ability to operate radio/console equipment and transmit information generally acquired through a high school education.
Experience
Work requires one year of experience in a related position to become familiar with dispatching procedures and accepted clerical practices involved in maintaining logs and files and in handling switchboard communications.
