Occupational Summary

Perform recruitment, placement and performance evaluation activities to develop and provide an effective temporary work force for Duke University departments.

Work Performed

Interview applicants for employment in Duke Temporary Services; evaluate personal data, educational accomplishments and occupational skills to determine applicant qualifications; hire qualified applicants to serve in temporary pool.

Receive and process job requests; analyze tasks to be performed and apprise requesting departments of appropriate job classification and wage rate based on duties to be performed; select most qualified available employee or recruit employee for each position and assign employees to departments. Recruit employees through a variety of methods including, but not limited to, advertising, attendance at job fairs and special promotions to maintain an adequate pool of temporary employees.

Monitor and evaluate performance of up to 200 temporary employees at any time; review departmental appraisals of temporary employees; research problems; counsel and recommend disciplinary action as needed; terminate employees as appropriate.

Maintain liaison with departments to determine departmental needs and to market services offered by Duke Temporary Services; analyze and evaluate departmental use of competitive services; compile data regarding temporary employment activities and prepare reports setting forth progress, trends and recommendations; keep records and logs as required.

Update the Duke Temporary Services Procedures Manual as required; assist in the development of, and monitor adherence to, a code of ethics for temporary employees. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires familiarity with supervisory and/or human resource policies and practices or practical knowledge of specific occupational group(s) , as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems and provide customer service to clients, generally acquired through two years of supervisory, business, administrative, or other related experience, or practical work experience in occupational category(s) assigned to the specific position.

A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 years of general experience.
