Occupational Summary

Manage, plan and coordinate departmental accounting and financial operations, classified advertising, subscription sales and circulation maintenance for the Chronicle.

Work Performed

Supervise and coordinate activities involved in maintaining and processing various accounting and financial records associated with billing, revenue, collection and record keeping activities.

Determine budgetary recommendations and requirements; analyze and make recommendations to improve financial system; prepare financial and operational reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions and present findings to Chronicle Board.

Coordinate and monitor classified advertisement and subscription sales for the Chronicle; develop and implement policies and procedures for the processing of classified advertisements and subscription sales.

Plan newspaper circulation levels ensuring appropriate numbers of newspapers at various locations; make recommendations concerning increases or decreases of newspapers at certain points or expansion to new routes; determine and monitor contractors involved in physically distributing newspapers to various locations.

Coordinate with other Chronicle managers to jointly plan and implement programs, policies and deadlines.

Plan and schedule work priorities in accordance with newspaper goals and deadlines; hire and train student employees and review work. Research and recommend new equipment acquisitions; ensure adequate maintenance of office supplies.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of general accounting principles usually acquired through two years post-secondary education in accounting or a related business field.

Experience

Work generally requires three years experience in an accounting, marketing, administrative or related setting to acquire skills necessary to manage complex financial operations and to supervise various newspaper functions such as classified advertising, subscription sales and circulation. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
