Occupational Summary

As a member of the Operational Management Team and Faculty Leadership team, the Faculty Resource Center Director contributes to the development and growth of the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) through multi-faceted roles. The primary role for this position is to collaborate with Faculty and Operational leadership to identify and execute on strategies to secure new research development opportunities that align with DCRI priorities.

Work Performed

Strategy Development Strategize with Therapeutic Area Leaders, as well as other operational leaders, such as Proposals, Marketing, and Operations, to build strategic therapeutic area business plans for generating new leads and opportunities that support DCRI priorities, help secure DCRI financial sustainability and align with faculty team members research interests.

Provide alignment and visibility on new industry opportunities, wins and lessons learned across the business on a regular cadence, including an Executive Research Roundtable, for review of industry opportunities.

Partner with Deputy Director and Therapeutic Area leads for annual development of financial targets for new project awards for each therapeutic area and across DCRI.

Assist the Deputy Director and executive leadership team in building bridges and connections between the DCRI and other Duke institutions as a way to generate new research opportunities and provide value-add services for sponsors through One Duke capabilities.

Client and Account Management Manage Therapeutic Area accounts by finding opportunities, handling incoming email requests, qualifying opportunities and helping manage sponsors and opportunities from initial conversation, through CDA, to proposal.

Develop Key Accounts program and actively prospect and leverage potential new business opportunities within those specified key accounts by facilitating relationships with key decision-makers and developing in-depth knowledge of the customer organization.

Work with operations and functional managers to identify bid defense / new research development team for each new opportunity, handle preparation for a strategic conversation and lead the overall meeting and subsequent follow-up.

Maintain general knowledge of all DCRI services for appropriate cross- sell opportunities.

New Research Development Operational Excellence Focus on improving the sponsor experience through partnerships with Operations, Marketing, Proposals, and Faculty.

Identify multiple opportunities throughout the year to train and educate key faculty and operational teams to empower them in helping to secure DCRI mission-oriented, sustainable industry research projects that align to their interests and expertise.

Oversee the utilization of the DCRI Business Intelligence tools and platforms to generate new leads, gain marketing landscape insights and vet new opportunities.

Partner with Operational Excellence to champion SalesForce and other key technology and processes that support a best-in-class CRM system and sales process.

Liaise on the Strategic Partnership Initiative to provide input on what capabilities might be needed into the future to deliver on customer needs.

Liaise with government grants leadership to understand synergies between industry and government grant work.

Marketing Communications Partnership Oversee priority setting for customer-facing materials and ensure Voice of the Customer input into DCRI materials, including core decks, the DCRI website and case studies.

Leverage Marketing Communications to help amplify DCRI faculty expertise and operational capabilities and set up engagements with new targets at industry-heavy conferences.

Partner with Marketing Communications to develop and implement a variety of marketing communication strategies designed to generate new opportunities.

Oversee key executive thought leadership program that brings together industry sponsors, academic thought leaders, nonprofits, patient representatives and government agencies, such as FDA, to discuss key issues in clinical research in collaboration with DCRI faculty leaders.

Personnel Management Support and lead account management personnel to effectively achieve objectives and navigate challenges.

In collaboration with GPS, facilitate efforts to develop and report metrics to assess the effectiveness of the DCRIs sales and proposal development efforts (i.e., hit rate, etc.) and reports that summarize information regarding new project opportunities to support effective decision-making regarding project selection and capacity planning.

Facilitate efforts to develop, implement and refine standard procedures for the review and approval of project proposals and ensure compliance with these procedures.

Oversee budgetary forecasts for Faculty Resource Center efforts.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor degree or its international equivalent from an accredited institution, Master degree in Marketing, Public Health or a clinical, scientific or health-related field preferred.

Experience

Minimum of ten years combined marketing, sales and/or business development experience in a CRO and pharmaceutical environment.

Skills

Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to plan, communicate and execute a business strategy.

Highly motivated self-starter.
