Occupational Summary

Plan, coordinate or participate in programs to enable University students to explore career opportunities through practical work experience.

Work Performed

Plan, coordinate or participate in programs to enable University students to explore career opportunities through practical work experience; evaluate effectiveness of programs and implement improvements as required.

Solicit internship and summer job opportunities through various means including, but not limited to, on-site visits, mail campaigns, alumni solicitations and presentations.

Establish and maintain liaison with businesses, social agencies, schools and hospitals to expand and promote the apprenticeship or intern programs to provide meaningful employment to University students and alumni; develop contacts in new areas to meet student and alumni needs.

Provide information to undergraduate students and alumni regarding career directions and vocational opportunities available; conduct information sessions, interviews, seminars and workshops and prepare various written materials including books, pamphlets and brochures to provide program information, guidance on resume preparation, interviewing techniques and job search strategies.

Assist students and alumni in defining their educational and vocational goals and to develop career directions to fulfill those goals.

Maintain liaison with Career Advisors in the various academic departments to give and receive information concerning current and future vocational opportunities.

Develop and implement communications and outreach plans for assigned career fields and/or programs as needed.

Assist in the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Train and supervise work of lower level employees, students and volunteers as assigned.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in a placement or other student services function to become familiar with career counseling and placement programs.
