Occupational Summary

Participate in audits by planning, supervising, and performing review and testing on all layers of computer systems (application, database, operating system, data, infrastructure, etc.) for data integrity and security as well as special audits of Duke University or Duke University Health System systems to ensure effectiveness of information technology (IT) and managerial controls and the accuracy of recorded data.

Work Performed

Plans, supervises, and performs the internal audit in a team environment, including ascertaining the reliability of developed IT applications and the related data processing functions, reviewing and evaluating the adequacy and efficiency of accounting, financial, and operating procedures established for IT control purposes.

Plans, supervises, performs, and controls the audit procedures which determine whether University and Health System application systems are in compliance with the IT Policies, GAAP, and statutory regulations. Develops the audit programs, coordinates with the department being tested, leads, directs and teaches the associate auditors assigned, provides performance feedback to the associate auditors, and prepares and delivers the results of the audit in a written report.

Performs special project work under the Director's instruction/supervision.

Develops and documents Computer Assisted Automated Techniques (CAAT) procedures for automating various IT test procedures and performing routine operational/financial audit tasks as needed.

Performs implementation reviews for new or modified application systems and IT technology. Develops or revises audit procedures for implementation assignments.

Assists Directors with the development of Internal Audit staff.

Provides information and assistance to the University's Certified Public Accountant and various governmental auditors to facilitate their audits of University records.

Compiles information and/or prepare reports and analyses setting forth results of audits with appropriate recommendations; perform subsequent audits to ensure complete and appropriate corrective action.

Provides guidance to management in the development and implementation of new and revised systems and internal control procedures.

Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business Management, or other relevant field as well as certification (CIA, CISA, or CISSP) by examination. CISA and CISSP preferred.

Experience

Requires three to five years IT audit experience. Experience in not-for- profit, governmental, or colleges and universities as well as health care experience is preferred. Experience with SAP is preferred.

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
