Occupational Summary

The primary purpose of the Duke Cell Culture Facility (CCF) Core Store Storeroom Manager is to oversee the procurement, delivery, product consultation and inventory of items in stock within the CCF Core Store used by the Duke University science laboratories to perform their experiments.

This position has management responsibility for the overall storeroom operations and staff.

Work Performed

Have a comprehensive knowledge of the CCF Core Store Inventory and Stock control system.

Responsible for maintaining Master Data Item list and ensure proper entry in the Inventory System for consistency with bar code identifiers and item descriptions.

Establish individual item inventory par levels and create automatic reorder thresholds based on minimum and maximum inventory ranges.

Update desk procedures for inventory management based on the functionality of the Inventory System application.

Generate canned reports and create ad hoc reporting within the Inventory Control System.

These reports are necessary for communicating to staff items to reorder, usage assessments, volume adjustments, billing, vendor space rental charges and product expiration date review.

Supervise staff cycle counts for accuracy of inventory.

Approves all inventory adjustments made by staff and resolves discrepancies between inventory and stock control records.

Facilitate the needs of campus laboratories for adding new inventory items to stock necessary for carrying out their experiments.

CoreResearch@Duke facility set-up and maintenance including updating master inventory item list.

Review monthly orders for discrepancies which are in queue to be billed.

Present scientific consultation on inventory items to help customers make appropriate selection of products based on their Specific Aims.

Oversight of storage equipment to ensure they are in best operational condition; proper temperature and alarm monitoring.

Develop storeroom layouts and material assignments.

Supervise Core Store staff including receivers, delivery staff and procurement.

Manage daily operations; including staff assignments and performance expectations.

Provide appropriate training as required; Conducts on-site inspections to evaluate and coach staff to ensure adherence to safety standards, such as proper stacking/packing techniques and handling of flammable products.

Implement policies and procedures which promote staff safety and chemical storage and ensure proper use and maintenance of delivery van.

Maintain storeroom best practices and develop and maintain an understanding of Duke purchasing policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

A Bachelor's degree is required.

Experience

Two years in a laboratory environment.

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Experience with ordering, inventory management, and restocking of lab supplies

Understands reagents, media, and how they are used procedurally

Understands laboratory techniques

Familiar with laboratory safety regulations
