Occupational Summary
Work Performed
Respond to all phone calls and e-mails and send information as appropriate.
Prepare weekly Op Tech student schedule including meeting with the Clinic Managers, Technician instructors and faculty as needed to discuss and schedule rotations. The schedule will include classes and clinical rotations.
Meet with the Technician instructors no less than quarterly to discuss issues.
Instructor responsible for introducing the students to the Technician instructors prior to the start of the clinical rotation.
Visit the students in clinical rotations throughout the main campus and satellites. Observe, instruct and mentor students.
Prepare and present teaching materials and instructional modules to students both online and in person.
Coordinate with the Special Events office, lectures that are appropriate for students to attend.
Revise, copy, administer and grade all exams, keeping accurate record.
Ensure that the technician instructors complete all clinical evaluations in a timely manner.
After each clinical rotation meet with the students to review and discuss the progress evaluations.
Maintain all Op Tech program files including: application files, student personnel files, attendance, grades, policies, post-graduate data and accreditation files.
Monthly progress meetings with each student.
Arrange classroom space as needed.
Schedule orientations.
Maintain and upgrade student library.
Screen applicants in Slate. Plan and coordinate applicant interview day. Ensure application information is up-to-date.
Communicate with applicants of the decisions made process accordingly through Slate and Peoplesoft.
Meet with Special Events office to plan and coordinate student graduation.
Meet with Program Medical Director to discuss faculty involvement and support.
Meet with the Director of Finance to review and discuss program budget.
In addition, review any current or upcoming program needs.
Prepare CoA-OMP Annual Report and prepare for accreditation.
Represent Duke OMA Training Program as a COTP member and attend Academy meetings.
Work with marketing department to maintain, revise and update brochures and website.
Plan and coordinate visits to high school counselors, job fairs and other marketing events.
Participate in the planning and staffing of vision screenings sponsored by the Eye Center.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Must be Certified Ophthalmic Technician
Experience
Work requires a minimum of five years experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of business related education, training and/or development programs. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
