Occupational Summary

Assist in the management and coordination of administrative and housekeeping activities involved in the operation of Duke University residence halls. Establish and maintain appropriate housekeeping standards in these facilities.

Work Performed

Establish job performance and cleanliness standards for RLHS housekeeping employees and facilities that assure residences are maintained at a superior level of care. Organize available staff, equipment, and material resources to meet these standards. Regularly assess facility conditions to ascertain that standards are met.

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate the job performance of direct reports with special attention on professional development plans. Manage direct reports with emphasis on effective planning and assessment of results. Develop and maintain a strong and positive commitment to teamwork and collaborative effort.

Provide information and recommendations for development of the Housekeeping Services budget. Manage needs within approved financial and staffing resources. Assure that all expenditures are made and processed in accordance with established University, Student Affairs, and departmental policies and procedures.

Provide vision and leadership in the development of ongoing training for bargaining unit employees. Includes but is not limited to departmental orientation for new employees, regular skills training, and related efforts that will elevate the individual and overall performance of housekeeping services personnel.

Implement a communication plan that assures employees are informed of unit activities and priorities. Meet with other RLHS and university staff to determine schedules to perform work or special projects. Ensure that emergency response protocols are in place and understood by all employees.

Act as a management representative to the collective bargaining unit including, but not limited to, insuring that union representatives are informed of departmental news and changes, managing dispute resolution processes, and serving as a University representative for contract negotiations.

Assure that assigned staff members have the products and equipment to do work at the performance levels expected of them; including the testing and evaluating of products and equipment. Establish a proactive review process for reviewing related products and equipment.

Perform related duties assigned or required to meet RLHS, division, and university goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires four years experience in residential services, housekeeping, facilities and equipment maintenance, fiscal management, business, or other related administrative capacity to acquire skills necessary to manage and coordinate administrative and housekeeping activities for Duke University Residence Hall Operations. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Physical mobility to comfortably walk considerable distances and climb stairs on a regular basis in order to inspect buildings is required.

Executive Housekeeper credential is strongly preferred.
