Occupational Summary

Provides principle leadership for the residential experience and facility operations for First Year or Upper-class residences. Develop a residential experience characterized by community development, faculty interaction, and leadership opportunities. Manage facilities and resources in ways that enhance the student residential experience. Recruit, train, supervise, and manage performance of assigned staff.

Work Performed

Participate in staff selection and training.

Supervise full-time staff team of Assistant Dean, Residence Coordinators, and Staff Assistants.

Assess the job performance of direct reports and manage the appraisal process for extended staff.

Provide direction for facilities operations for assigned residences including bedrooms, common areas, classrooms, and recreational spaces.

Support planned and unplanned maintenance and contribute to project development and cyclical planning efforts.

Ensure work orders are submitted and tracked in timely fashion.

Assist coordination of cleaning operations with housekeeping team.

Provide direction and vision for the residential experience with an emphasis on community development characterized by a sense of belonging and significant individual connections with and between residents in the community.

Develop and sustain living environments that celebrate learning as an integral focus of the residential and university experience.

Create opportunities for meaningful faculty-student interaction.

Provide general direction and support for student residential governance.

Collaborate with university colleagues to provide support to students in crisis, and facilitate effective responses to student behavioral issues, as circumstances require.

Serve on the University Emergency Dean-On-Call rotation responding to both undergraduate and graduate student emergencies.

Manage and oversee general operating and programmatic budgets ensuring adherence to departmental and University procedures and policies and that excellent stewardship of funds is provided.

Contribute to overall leadership of HRL by serving on leadership team as well as representing office in various divisional and university forums.

Assist with related projects, including but not limited to marketing initiatives, policy development, assessment efforts, manual resources, programming initiatives, and the like.

Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, division-wide and University goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master's degree in higher education, student personnel or a related field required.

Experience

Six years of full-time experience working in university residential communities required. Experience supervising staff at multiple levels, developing initiatives to foster community and learning, managing facility upkeep and improvements, and administering budgets required.
