Work Performed

Leadership/Management/Strategy

Lead the development and execution of stories andcontent that demonstrate a meaningful impact on the School of Medicine brand and the larger impact of positivity with the overall Duke University and Duke Health brands. Bea School of Medicine leader in planning and creation of strategic communications plans for EVP for Health Affairs and Duke Health leadership. Report on high-impact digital and brand communications projects for School of Medicine and Duke Health to the EVP for Health Affairs. Drive strategic decisions on visibility, budget and resource allocation on content development. Ensure efficiency across the operational workload while setting the course for producing integrated messaging efforts through a multi-channel approach. Oversee a team of creative staff of visual communicators, web managers, and digital and social media specialists. Lead the School of Medicine Communicators Network of 100 plus communications professionals and staff who serve as liaisons to office of Strategic Communications. Manage relationships with departments, identify solutions for communications needs across School of Medicine. Lead the development and maintenance of collaborative working relationships with SoM departments, centers, institute leaders and communicators, as well as University, DUHS, DUSON, Duke-NUS, DGHI, and Margolis Center for Health Policy communicators and teams. In coordination with Vice Dean for Communications and Advancement, create, plan and implement communication strategies and plans related to School of Medicine key and priority initiatives in support of research, education, patient care, and community partnership, Duke Health missions, and Duke University strategic framework.

Brand Communication

Oversee School of Medicine branding identity guidelines; ensure consistency across all School of Medicine units and departments. Responsible for strengthening the brand. Work closelywith Trademark and Licensing office to oversee production of School of Medicine collateral. Work closely with AVP, Digital and Brand Strategy for Duke University to align School of Medicine and Duke Health brand identity with Duke's. Manage and implement content marketing strategies and explore organic and paid marketing strategies, as necessary, to enhance the School of Medicine's reputation. Manage internal communication processes, including the planning and distribution of executive memos from the EVP for Health Affairs to the School of Medicine and Duke Health communities. Oversee management of School of Medicine distribution lists, coordinate with DUHS internal communications teams on distribution of Duke Health leadership memos.

Digital Communication

Lead the development of strategies and implementation of SoM central and Development/Alumni digital assets, including but not limited to, medschool.duke.edu, giving.dukehealth.org, electronic newsletters, social media, photography and creative design to promote educational programs, research and scholarly activities, recruitment initiatives, alumni and donor relations, and philanthropic initiatives. Direct the creativity and production of digital, audio, video, graphic design, andvisual communications to enhance strategic communications initiatives, news stories, and content marketing strategies. Work closely with the School of Medicines editorial team. Oversee website content development for medschool.duke.edu and giving.dukehealth.org in coordination with web manager and digital communications director and editorial director. Manages the School of Medicine federated web model, which encompasses more than 40 School of Medicine websites, to ensure compliance, security and aligned branding of all sites. Oversee management, development and implementation of integrated social media strategies for School of Medicine and EVP for Health Affairs channels. Collect and analyze data of digital channels including website, videos, electronic newsletters, and social media accounts, in partnership with team.Oversee School of Medicine branding identity guidelines; ensure consistency across all School of Medicine units and departments. Finance/Operations

Develop and oversee office/team workflow and processes. Oversee team's broad portfolio of communications projects to ensure projects are assigned, deadlines are met, and the highest level quality of work is produced. Oversee Office of Strategic Communications budget, expenditures, vendor relationships, and vendor contracts. Hire and oversee outside consultants as necessary, which may include writers, graphic designers, videographers, and web vendors.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Completion of a bachelor's degree program in Journalism, Communications, English or a related discipline.

Experience

Work requires ten years of experience in communications or a related discipline to include a minimum of three years of experience in the higher education field.
