Occupational Summary

Direct, develop and supervise financial systems and programs which analyze potential and real results of individual and collective efforts in the Department of Medicine. Assist in planning major initiatives with leadership advising and recommending successful business plans to accomplish goals.

Work Performed

Maintain liaison with key leaders in the Medical Center to coordinate Department of Medicine business matters in concert with institutional goals and plans.

Keep informed of major Medical Center initiatives and collaborate in the planning and implementation of institution-wide financial programs, projects and systems.

Manage and direct the preparation and review of the Department of Medicine annual budget; consult with the chair and Vice Chair for Finance and Administration regarding division program and financial goals.

Meet with Division Chiefs and Business Managers to plan fiscal needs and projections and discuss results.

Analyze departmental plans and programs; set sound financial goals and provide reliable measurements to forecast and review results.

Identify potential problems and solutions.

Work with PDC, divisional business managers and Hospital staff to develop combined budgets for CBUs.

Work with Grants Manager to develop financial database for grants and contracts.

Work with Department Developmental officer to develop means to track, monitor and manage philanthropic gifts for Department.

Direct efforts of the Department of Medicine in renovation and new construction projects; insure planned funding for projects is secured; provide financial consultation and oversight in the design and construction process.

Review financial data on a regular basis to identify and evaluate trends, problems and/or changes in projections.

Review PDC clinic budget with Vice Chair of Finance and Administration and manager of Clinical Affairs for appropriateness.

Review monthly PDC Reports with clinic manager looking for unusual trends. Identify potential problems and solutions.

Design systems to track and analyze individual faculty and program productivity; meet with the chair, Vice Chairs, division business managers, program directors and appropriate faculty leaders to discuss projections and develop a plan of action for fiscal stability and balance based on predefined results.

Develop long term and short range financial plans for the Department of Medicine in accordance with the Chairs and the Vice Chair for Finance and Administrations goals and priorities; supervise staff and provide guidance to division business managers to ensure departmental goals are achieved.

Oversee Faculty appointment process including new hires, promotions and terminations.

This would include writing of offer letters, letters to PDC and overseeing PCN preparation.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of 10 years related business or administrative experience to acquire competence in applying general accounting principles, personnel practices and coordination of major administrative functions.
