Occupational Summary

Plan and coordinate special maintenance, renovation and development projects for Duke University Hospitals, Medical Center buildings and facilities.

Work Performed

Plan and coordinate activities with Medical Center personnel and outside contractors on the construction of special maintenance, renovation and development projects for Duke University Hospitals, Medical Center buildings and facilities.

Formulate cost estimates on major renovations and special maintenance projects; determine quality and quantity of required materials, supplies and staffing.

Coordinate with users or departments to determine renovation requirements; maintain liaison between Medical Center Engineering and Operations Department and all parties concerned to discuss modification and adequate solutions to project problems.

Inspect completion of renovation or special maintenance projects to ensure procedures and materials comply with national, state and local building codes, Medical Center specifications, contract documents and/or work instructions.

Prepare budget recommendations associated with maintenance and/or construction needs; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Supervise and coordinate various teams in maintenance and/or construction as assigned. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and scheduling.

Review reports, plans, documentation, and drawings to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies; ensure life safety drawings and plans are complete and up to date.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires considerable knowledge of maintenance and construction procedures and plans normally acquired through a college degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field.

Experience

Work requires extensive knowledge of maintenance and construction including facility renovation and development normally acquired through 4 years of related experience including some coordination of renovation and development projects.
