Occupational Summary

Coordinate publicity and public relations activities for all non-revenue sports; assist Director, Sports Information with revenue sports.

Work Performed

Produce recruiting brochures to include securing printing contracts, writing or approving copy, providing official statistics for team and individual players, securing photographs, lay out and design, and coordinating with printer and mail services for distribution.

Develop weekly press releases for various non-revenue sports; determine appropriate distribution of releases; provide special releases on specific players or teams based upon performance, standing in the conference or other relevant factors.

Compile and maintain statistics on teams and individual players; ensure all home games are staffed to collect statistics; provide statistics to the Conference to determine conference standing in various categories.

Maintain complete and up-to-date files of teams and individual players; keep hard copies of printed materials as well as photographs to ensure an accurate historical record of players and teams.

Coordinate the monthly publication of the Devilirium Newsletter to include writing stories, coordinating writing efforts of others, securing appropriate photographs, lay out and design of newsletter, maintenance of subscription listing and coordination with printer and mail service for timely distribution.

Prepare reports for electronic media to include tape recording covering applicable sports events; determine information to include from statistics compiled and/or interviews with coaches; change recording as appropriate.

Coordinate activities associated with the hiring and supervision of student assistants; hire and train students; make work assignments for both revenue and non-revenue events.

Assist Director, Sports Information with press box operation for all home football and mens basketball events to ensure smooth operations of activities freeing the Director, Sports Information of details.

Prepare rosters, schedule cards, programs and posters for non-revenue sports as appropriate.

Assist Director, Sports Information with the writing and publication of football and mens basketball annual press and recruiting guides, and game programs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work generally requires one year experience in advertising, marketing, media, promotions, public relations or a related field to acquire skills necessary to implement a variety of sports information activities.
