Occupational Summary

Manage and supervise the efforts of data processing personnel in the analysis of University operations and the design and development of procedures and functions including forms, organizational structure, work coordination and paper flow process to determine the feasibility of adaptation to computer data processing methods.

Work Performed

Manage and supervise a team of Data Processing personnel in the analysis of University operations to determine the feasibility of adaptation to computer data processing methods or to define manual procedure improvements.

Provide the direction needed for the development of specifications and requirements for information systems to include systems proposals, systems narratives, data gathering and verification techniques, accounting and auditing controls, hardware and software needs, decision tables, input/output requirements, processing specifications, data base content and management.

Coordinate and maintain liaison with department managers or other representatives of University divisions or departments for whom the application is being designed. Coordinate and maintain liaison with representatives of other University data processing operations in data base design, content and management, and other file structures to establish and maintain the appropriate interface or exchange of data with existing or planned systems.

Maintain liaison with professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques. Participate in the determination of hardware and software needs and advise interested parties as to the feasibility, acquisition and installation of types of hardware and software.

Supervise and participate in the preparation and presentation of new applications or enhancements to existing systems.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, work assignments, performance appraisals, promotions and disciplinary actions; train new employees and monitor performance.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
