Occupational Summary
Direct and coordinate the maintenance of gift records involving the receipt, processing and acknowledgement of gifts to Duke University from private sources; serve as Major Gifts Officer in a major fundraising project.
Work Performed
Direct and supervise the receiving, processing and acknowledgement of all private gifts to the University which includes cash, securities and gift in kind of value.
Manage a timely system of gift acknowledgment, including the mailing of receipts, the advising of appropriate University officials and reporting to donors for memorials and similar projects.
Manage and coordinate all aspects of gift accounting; maintain liaison with appropriate University departments to ensure proper recording of gifts; analyze existing office gift processing and accounting procedures and implement improved methods as necessary.
Maintain regular communication with various University departmental representatives to advise of the receipt of gifts and to ensure proper distribution of specific gifts.
Evaluate, propose and implement methods and activities to improve donor relations, improve the collection of funds and increase revenues to Duke.
Meet with donors to accept gifts, answer questions about gift designations, and provide information about pledges and previous gifts; interpret donor desires and mediate to meet University interests.
Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, corporations and foundations for major gifts to Duke University; supervise special fundraising projects as assigned.
Assist Director, Development Support Services in the establishment of long term directions for the Gift Records office and the gift system.
Prepare special reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; direct the preparation of a variety of reports for Officers of the University.
Determine fiscal requirements for office and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
