Occupational Summary

This position leads a $2B supply chain for two large and nationally ranked organizations, Duke University and Duke University Health System. It provides leadership and oversight for end to end supply chain functions across Duke University Health System and University. End to end supply chain includes a comprehensive organizational model with single reporting structure for strategic sourcing and procurement, materials and inventory management, warehousing and logistics, and optimization of Supply Chain technology and analytics. This position negotiates multi million dollar contracts on behalf of Duke with the highest level of executives within corporations and firms conducting business with Duke.

Work Performed

Provide strategic direction for university and health system-wide sourcing, procurement, and logistics efforts.

Integrate clinical supply chain activities with Care Redesign initiatives to ensure a comprehensive understanding by the clinical team of the total cost of care.

Develop metrics, targets, and methodologies to maintain total cost performance through strategic sourcing, utilization reductions or changes, and other cost reduction initiatives.

Communicate Supply Chain metrics, targets, and achievements to Senior Executive team and engage Senior Leaders in supporting relevant Supply Chain initiatives.

Develop strong and effective relationships with senior Duke leaders, physicians, and other key stakeholder groups.

Determine comprehensive strategy to manage inventory and distribution services across all Duke locations.

Oversee the product recall process for clinical operations ensuring systems are effectively deployed that expedite notification, rapidly remediate affected inventory, control liability and risk, and informing senior clinical team as to actions requiring necessary notification of patients and/or providers.

Develop system wide policies and procedures to support organizational strategy for the Supply Chain organization.

Maintain interface with vendors and service representatives to ensure goods and services meet established standards and applicable policies and practices.

Negotiate contracts with suppliers to gain appropriate savings and service levels and ensure legal contract requirements are met.

Manage relationships with vendors including measurement of performance and mutual goals against contractual obligations.

Survey markets for latest trends in price, availability, delivery, and quality.

Provide governance, structure and oversight for Value Analysis, Sourcing teams, and New Product Introduction teams across the Duke enterprise.

Remove obstacles for teams to allow optimal performance and achievement of team targets and mission.

Integrate Supply Chain activities with Care Redesign initiatives and other clinical effectiveness efforts.

Establish best practices in inventory management throughout the Health System, including inpatient/outpatient units, operating rooms, cath lab and radiology procedural areas, and other supply intensive locations.

Ensure optimal customer service is provided and continuously improved to all customers. Oversee the following supply chain programs:

Provide leadership and direction for the successful development and implementation of supply chain automation technologies and technical infrastructure required to support supply chain activities.

Create and sustain a robust , clean, and comprehensive item master that supports and maintains the link between Supply Chain and Revenue Cycle.

Develop and integrate spend analytics and data visualization to enable visibility of cost including both price and utilization.

Establish consistent policies and procedures along with organizational and staffing structures for all Supply Chain personnel.

Create effective communication channels for staff keeping team informed and positively impacting work culture.

Manage various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, and transfers throughout the Supply Chain.

Establish, monitor, and communicate Supply Chain goals and achievement of goals on a regular basis.

Perform skills assessment for all team members and develop training programs to include a robust onboarding program and a targeted training plan for team members that strengthens the mix and level of skills with staff.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires cognitive, communicative, and analytical skills normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree.

Experience

Work requires ten years of progressive experience in Supply Chain.
