Occupational Summary

Supervise Duke Clinical Research Institute staff within an applications analysis and programming unit; provide communication and direction in the development of specifications and requirements for information systems in support of DCRI research and administration.

Work Performed

Supervise Duke Clinical Research Institute staff within an applications analysis and programming unit; provide communication and direction in the development of specifications and requirements for information systems in support of DCRI research and administration.

Provide the direction needed in support of the Medical Center Administration for the development of specifications and requirements for information systems to include systems proposals, systems narratives, data gathering and verification techniques, accounting and auditing controls, hardware and software needs, decision tables, input/output requirements, processing specifications, data base content and management.

Develop and maintain liaison with project sponsors and key systems users; assist users in prioritizing new development projects, enhancement projects for existing systems, and system maintenance requests; recommend projects to management and users for approval.

Supervise and guide the detailed design and development activities for entire application; estimate staff resource needs for analysts, programmers, user personnel, consultants, and equipment; plan team member work assignments and schedules; review documentation for completion and compliance with standard operating procedures.

Perform the duties of a Senior Systems Analyst as required. Maintain liaison with professional organizations and information systems management within similar organizations to ensure utilization of current principles, techniques and policies; work with commercial equipment vendors in the analysis, design and development of administrative information systems.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, work assignments, performance appraisals, promotions and disciplinary actions. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics or a computer related field or the equivalent coursework or technical training.

Experience

Work requires 5 years of progressive experience to include 2 years experience in computer project management.
