Occupational Summary

Coordinate the design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical and high voltage distribution systems at Duke University; perform related engineering determinations to assist in design and ensure efficient operations.

Work Performed

Coordinate the design, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance of University electrical and high voltage distribution systems to ensure that the needs of the University are met in the most economical and practical manner.

Review electrical plans, specifications and equipment for new installations and renovations; inspect projects during and following installation and advise as to compliance with specifications prior to University acceptance.

Assist in the design, procurement and maintenance of University standards to provide guidelines for future project planning, design, construction and maintenance.

Advise and assist with problems involving electrical engineering and maintenance.

Plan, prepare, and maintain electrical safety programs; carry out regular safety instruction sessions and ensure that all facilities and service equipment conform to all applicable Federal, State, and local safety regulations.

Monitor, examine and verify expenditure of funds to established project budgets.

Determine fiscal requirements of Electrical Utilities section and submit budgetary recommendations.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; to include areas of energy conservation.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, firing, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
