Occupational Summary

The Assistant Vice President of Multi-Cultural Advancement will provide leadership and strategic vision in the conceptualization, planning, development and execution of a comprehensive program to promote and strengthen diverse alumni involvement and engagement with Duke University and enhance philanthropic efforts that support Asian, African American and Latino and LGBTQ identified students. This area will solely coordinate engagement and solicitation strategies that lead to increased philanthropic support from key constituencies that have been historically under-represented engages diverse alumni populations with Duke University and DAA lifelong learning initiatives and programs.

Work Performed

Develop, promote and lead the Multicultural Advancement area. Champion affinity-interest groups organizational and engagement activities.

Plan and evaluate fundraising campaigns and activities. Research best practices and fundraising trends.

Create and execute a strategy for a large-sustained base of annual individual donors.

Identify and steward prospective diverse donors. Support needs of diverse donors and volunteers interested in giving to Duke University. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.

Secure major gifts and move donors to the next giving level with annual goals. Manage portfolio of donors and prospects.

Administer signature fundraising and donor stewardship events (ie homecoming, reunions).

Streamline the pipeline to diversify volunteers and university boards, ensuring that volunteers are appropriately screened and vetted.

Evaluate contribution of individual volunteers and organize formal recognition events.

Match volunteer skills and interests with existing university needs (ie: Human Capital Campaign.

Facilitate the Affinity Group Leadership Council.

Manage and supervise the Multicultural Advancement Team.

Recruit, train and educate fundraising staff and volunteer leaders on diverse philanthropy and engagement initiatives.

Communicate fundraising and engagement goals throughout the organization and train team members to reach them.

Institute program policies and procedures (i.e. documenting volunteer/engagement hours).

Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires ten years of leadership skills to include five years of experience in alumni affairs, public relations, program administration and analysis, marketing or related field to acquire the advanced skills necessary to direct the planning and coordination of social, education, and community service activities and event.
