Occupational Summary

Direct the operations of the North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research (NCABR) consistent with the objectives established by the board of Directors.

Work Performed

Implements strategic blueprint in partnership with the Board of Directors to carry out a shared vision and plan of action for the future of the organization.

Responsible for providing overall strategic, programmatic and administrative leadership and for management of the affairs and funds encompassed in daily operations.

Serves as primary spokesperson in representing the programs and point of view of NCABR.

Advocates for NCABR's interests and works to ensure its high repute and credibility.

Networks on behalf of NCABR with the bioscience community, foundations, current and potential funders, trade associations, state agencies and other relevant groups to increase visibility of NCABR.

Establishes effective program collaborations and cultivates relationships with key stakeholders in the bioscience research community and elsewhere.

Fosters a close working relationship with NCABR members.

Supports the bioscience research community with programs and publications about animal research.

Works closely with its counterpart organizations around the country to promote the message that animal research saves lives.

Conducts successful science education outreach programs for teachers, students, media and the general public.

Secures grants, creative funding sources and novel organizational arrangements that enhance NCABR's financial situation.

Works with Board and staff in developing and implementing appropriate fund-raising and financial development strategies.

Ensures that solid financial management systems are in place and that the organization's mission and objectives serve as the basis for sound financial planning.

Meets the annual financial target for the Reserve Fund and ends the fiscal year in a solid financial position.

Maintains working knowledge about current and significant trends in the bioscience industry and nonprofit leadership.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Advanced degree preferred.

Experience

Ten or more years of progressive responsibility in operations and administration in a leadership role. Requires demonstrated skill as an effective communicator. Requires a proven track record of leading successful fund raising efforts
