Occupational Summary
Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of a departmental section of Duke University Libraries.
Work Performed
Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of a departmental section of Perkins Library; ensure that section operates efficiently and effectively; assign tasks and priorities and coordinate work flow among units.
Supervises staff, including directing work, managing performance, and recommending personnel actions.
In collaboration with the department head sets goals and establishes priorities for the work of the team; develops and documents procedures and workflow.
Explain and implement University and Library policies; formulate and document section policies and procedures; meet regularly with unit heads and other staff to discuss policies, procedures and work flow.
Works collaboratively with other units, ensures maximum efficiency by coordinating section activities with other parts of the library system.
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Participate, as a member of the department's supervisory and administrative group, in overall departmental planning; represent the section on appropriate committees. Implement special projects as required.
Assist department head with budget and resource management for the department.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Generally requires a BA/BS.
Experience
Work generally requires four years of related library experience to include one year of supervisory experience.
