Occupational Summary

Coordinate and participate in the implementation of promotional ideas and activities in support of a comprehensive public relations program to publicize and promote Duke University activities and programs for general and specialized audiences.

Work Performed

Coordinate and participate in the preparation of internal promotional publications to include planning articles, editing copy to conform to proper grammatical style, and supervising the printing and distribution of publications.

Conduct interviews, and research and write news releases, articles, and feature stories for University, local, and national publications to publicize and promote Duke University activities and programs.

Maintain interface with departmental personnel to elicit news and promotional items of interest and to compile information concerning the University calendar of events.

Answer requests for information and articles concerning activities within the University from local and national sources. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline.

Experience

Work requires one year of directly related writing experience.
