Occupational Summary

Develop, execute, and evaluate the delivery of a comprehensive residential campus experience over three campuses. Lead management and evolution of Duke House's residential model delivering an experience reflecting strong community connection, equity in opportunity, leadership development, and cultural appreciation.

Work Performed

Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with academic affairs that will routinely engage faculty in the residential experience including management support of the Faculty in Residence program.

Establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with offices and programs within Student Affairs and across campus that will enhance the quality of the residential experience.

Collegially support initiatives important to the success of the division or other units that serve the campus residential population.

Ensure appropriate response and support to ever-increasing number of student mental health and conduct related situations with particular focus and involvement on the most serious.

Serve on Student Behavior Assessment Team charged with assessing and addressing threat situations related to the undergraduate and graduate student body.

Serve on the University Emergency Dean-On-Call rotation responding to all major concerns with both undergraduate and graduate students.

Direct personnel actions for residence life team including but not limited to hiring, training, merit recommendations, and performance appraisals.

Supervise full time staff team assigned to each campus including direct supervision of Associate Deans and the Assistant Dean/Director of New Student Programs and indirect supervision of Residence/Program Coordinators.

Provide overall leadership and direction for multiple Graduate Resident and Resident Assistant teams totaling almost 200 members.

Lead compliance efforts related to Title IX, Cleary Act, and other federal, state, and university regulations for staff and student leaders serving on the team including required and appropriate training.

Provide leadership and oversight to Office of New Student Programs whose primary mission is to provide a comprehensive on boarding program for undergraduate matriculates including Welcome Week and other orientation related programs.

Manage and oversee multiple budgets; maximize impact of funds while ensuring proper procedures are followed and excellent stewardship funds are provided.

Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all HDRL responsibility centers.

Contribute to facility project planning, development and design, strategic planning and goal setting, and establishment and review of operating priorities and practices.

Represent department on numerous division and university committees including senior leadership team for Student Affairs.

Lead the development, implementation, and review of community standards that promote a sense of belonging, respect, and accountability among residents.

Oversee advising of student groups related to HDRL, assuring development of effective and engaged residential councils as well as necessary risk management practices.

Lead design and implementation of standards for Selective Living Groups.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master's degree in higher education, student personnel. Doctorate preferred.

Experience

Minimum of seven years of directly related work experience, with a demonstrated pattern of increased responsibility for the development and delivery of programming models that promote learning communities. Ten or more years of experience preferred. Full time experience working in residential communities required.
