Occupational Summary

Prepare and review architectural designs for Duke University expansion and renovation programs and organize all services necessary for construction.

Work Performed

Review and critique proposals made by consultant architects for University expansion projects.

Provide architectural assistance to University expansion programs by establishing basic programming for new buildings and renovations. Develop schematic studies, preliminary plans, working drawings, and specifications for minor buildings or renovations.

Examine projects under construction and ensure the maintenance of sound architectural standards.

Advise members of construction administration on architectural matters and assist the interior design staff with architectural or design problems. Monitor and examine expenditure of funds of established project budgets.

Supervise drafting staff to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning. Recommend various personnel actions including but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture.

North Carolina Board of Architecture license is also required.

Experience

Eligibility for licensure examination requires three years experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Architect.

Thirteen years of training under a licensed Architect may be substituted for the above education and experience per N.C. Board of Architecture. Licensure is still mandatory.
