Occupational Summary

Plan, design and coordinate artistic, functional interiors for Duke University Medical Center facilities.

Work Performed

Plan and design artistic, functional interiors for Duke University Medical Center facilities by analyzing basic requirements and purposes based on client needs and resources.

Sketch plans and prepare specifications for interiors depicting proper arrangement of furniture and accessories and coordinate harmonious color schemes.

Estimate cost and amount of materials required, present plans to those concerned for approval, estimate bids, and prepare contracts for interior installation.

Select and prepare purchase requisitions for decorative and functional materials and accessories such as furniture, light fixtures and pictures; ensure selections meet all appropriate codes and governing requirements, ensure proper handling and storage of materials.

Coordinate workers painting walls, laying carpets, installing fixtures and draperies and arranging furniture and accessories in position. Inspect quality of finished product. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree and eligibility for NCIDQ certification.

Experience

Work requires at least two years of related experience in Interior Design, to include at least one year of experience in a commercial setting.

One year of experience as a buyer or purchaser of commercial furnishings may be substituted for one of the two years of required experience.
