Responsible for leading university wide marketing and communications plans that support philanthropic giving to the university.
Serve as chief marketing and communications officer for the Office of University Development and for development activities at Duke.
In consultation with development and university leadership, develop, implement, and oversee marketing and communications plans to support Annual Fund campaigns and multi year, university wide campaigns.
Oversee the implementation of marketing and communications plans.
Oversee the strategy for and production of fund raising publications, mailings, websites, videos, ad campaigns, and stewardship materials. Direct the work of staff and contract writers, editors, web developers, graphic designers, communications strategists, videographers, and project managers.
Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Bachelor's degree is required. Advanced degree preferred.
The successful candidate should have a minimum of ten years progressively responsible experience in development and communications, preferably in a university setting.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, previous experience working with senior level executives, sound judgment and the ability to work effectively under multiple deadlines, web and digital communications experience, experience working with designers and print production, and experience with the issues facing higher education.
