Occupational Summary

Plan and supervise the work required to maintain all the formal landscaping, natural and desirable landscape features, drivers, walks, athletic fields, surface storm drainage and other outdoor areas on East and West Campuses and certain other designated local off campus properties.

Work Performed

Manage, plan and coordinate grounds maintenance, cleaning and repair of streets, walks and parking areas, including the removal of snow, preparation and readiness of athletic facilities and playing fields for sporting events and physical education classes.

Make work assignments through a foreman for the tree maintenance crew.

Review and evaluate procedures and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations.

Plan and schedule work for Grounds Maintenance Personnel to ensure proper distribution of maintenance effort.

Evaluate equipment and tools and determine maintenance and replacement schedules.

Evaluate available new equipment and materials and recommend purchasing specifications. Plan and arrange meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and procedures and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.

Manage personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires an Associate's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Turf Management or a related field to acquire technical and practical knowledge of landscape and grounds management.

Experience

Work requires five years of progressively responsible experience in landscape/grounds maintenance and/or operations to include prior supervision and/or management of personnel engaged in grounds maintenance activities.

A Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture or a related field may offset two years of required experience.
