Occupational Summary

Assist in the planning and coordinating of a comprehensive and diversified public relations/fund raising program to publicize and promote Duke University Athletic Association activities and programs; serve as liaison between Duke University Athletic Association and its varsity athlete alumni.

Work Performed

Assist in the planning and coordinating of a comprehensive and diversified alumni relations/fund raising program for Duke Athletics to include developing and implementing promotional ideas and activities, coordinating staff for maximum effectiveness and fostering positive relationships with external contacts.

Develop and maintain a system of identifying, cultivating and soliciting gifts from varsity athlete alumni, including activities with varsity athletes while on campus.

Develop and coordinate activities jointly with the Duke Alumni Office and other appropriate University offices.

Obtain, analyze and prepare promotional and informational items concerning Duke University Athletic Association activities for publication and circulation in various media such as Blue Devil Weekly and special mailings to appropriate constituents.

Develop and maintain personal contact with prospects to develop their interest in Duke University Athletic Association gifts and to provide information concerning the utilization of the gift to Duke University Athletic Association.

Develop and maintain procedures in coordination with and consistent with established recording procedures of the Office of Gift Records to ensure accurate and effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow up on all private gifts to Duke University Athletic Association.

Determine fiscal and personnel requirements of office and prepare budgetary recommendations.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires five years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in a comprehensive public relations/fund raising program to publicize and promote Duke University Athletic Association activities.
