Occupational Summary

Clinical Coordinators are responsible for providing quality professional services in the evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, language or hearing disorders and to assist the Clinical Directors of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Clinical Programs in the areas as follows: Provide patient care services , assist Clinical Directors in the clinical supervision of staff, communicate with and inform the Clinical Directors and/or Chief of any problems, changes, or trends affecting staff, patient care, or any other aspects affecting the Division, Assist the Clinical Directors in the development of procedures regarding clinical competency measures and the subsequent credentialing of clinical personnel and other administrative functions, identify potential clinical program development activities, and assist Director with implementation as requested, identify/coordinate/participate in clinical education activities and research activities. This position will report to the Clinical Directors of the Speech Pathology and Audiology Programs with ultimate accountability to the Chief, Division of Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Work Performed

Patient Care

Provide patient care services involving evaluation and treatment of speech/language or hearing disorders by demonstration of best practices. Maintain a patient care load of 80% of the Division productivity standard for that individual's clinical area of expertise unless otherwise agreed upon by the Chief. Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to clinical staff for maintaining professional practice standards, clinical staff skill development, and in providing quality professional patient care services.

Staff Supervision Assist Clinical Directors in the clinical supervision of staff. Participate in the coordination of orientation and training of new clinical staff. Provide guidance for clinical staff in setting goals for professional development and work performance. Coordinate and monitor day to day clinical staffing assignments to meet caseload needs while maximizing productivity. Provide input to Clinical Directors for clinical staff annual performance evaluations. Communication

Inform the Clinical Directors and/or Chief of any problems, changes, or trends affecting staff, patient care, or any other aspects affecting the Division. Maintain regular contact with physicians and other professionals regarding the availability of clinical services and/or educational opportunities afforded by the Division. Assist the Clinical Directors and/or Chief by engaging staff in the identification of problems, concerns and initiatives that may potentially impact upon the Division. Participate in planning programs as directed by the Clinical Directors and/or Chief.

Administrative Functions

Assist the Clinical Directors and/or Chief in the interviewing and selecting of appropriate candidates for clinical positions. Assist the Clinical Directors in the development of procedures regarding clinical competency measures and the subsequent credentialing of clinical personnel. Assist the Clinical Directors and/or Chief in clinical performance improvement activities for the Division. Assist the Clinical Directors and/or Chief in educational activities for the Division. Assist in any other Administrative duties as assigned by the Clinical Directors and/or Chief.

Program Development Identify potential clinical program development activities. Participate in the coordination of clinical program development as directed by the Clinical Directors and/or Chief. Implement new clinical programs as directed by the Clinical Directors and/or Chief.

Clinical Education/Research

Identify/coordinate/participate in clinical education activities. Assist the Clinical Directors and Chief in the identification of potential research activities. Participate in research activities with approval of Clinical Directors and Chief.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Requires a Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology or Audiology from an accredited college or university AND a permanent license from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

For Audiology, requires an NC licensure as an Audiologist and a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or Board Certified in Audiology (ABOA) or New Graduate Privilege License (Temporary License) in Audiology issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

For Privilege License, full license is expected within one month after completing supervised year of training.

In addition to the above educational requirements, this position requires a Full time clinical appointment within the Division AND Credentials in a minimum of two advanced clinical competencies as determined by the Clinical Director through use of the Division Clinical Competency Checklists.

Experience

Minimum of three years of experience, preferably within a medical setting.

Minimum of one year experience within the Division of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Duke University Medical Center.
