Occupational Summary

Coordinate and implement programs for gift acknowledgment, donor recognition and stewardship for University Development; plan, design and coordinate outreach programs aimed at donor cultivation and fund raising.

Work Performed

Coordinate and implement programs for gift acknowledgment, donor recognition and donor stewardship for University Development to include developing and maintaining a system of annual reporting to donors of non financial, human interest oriented information concerning the utilization of their gifts at Duke University; communicate in writing and in person with individual donors to inform them of University goals and programs; coordinate reporting efforts with financial reporting from Gift Records Office and other University wide Development areas.

Design, plan and coordinate special outreach programs and fund raising projects aimed at donor cultivation and recognition to ensure events at Duke and assigned geographic locations run smoothly, to include preparing agendas, determining appropriate audience, coordinating guest lists, selecting event sites and coordinating logistical arrangements; select and invite speakers for events as appropriate; coordinate travel arrangements and accommodations as necessary.

Participate in the fund raising efforts of the department to include assuming responsibility for specific prospects, projects or campaigns as assigned; initiate and maintain contact with donors and prospective donors for cultivation and solicitation purposes.

Recommend policies and procedures for donor relations programs for all University and Medical Center donors; develop, coordinate and distribute policy and procedures manual to all areas of Development.

Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Prepare reports and analyses reflecting progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires four years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to coordinate a system of annual reporting to donors and to participate in special fund raising activities. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
