Occupational Summary

Conduct inventories and audits of Duke University facilities to include space, and moveable and fixed equipment; determine if equipment should be expensed or capitalized; classify space based on functional use and physical characteristics to ensure proper utilization reporting and cost distribution.

Work Performed

Conduct inventories and audits of physical facilities; determine if equipment should be expensed or capitalized; establish original cost data for capital equipment utilizing purchase orders, invoices and cost manuals.

Contact departments subsequent to inventories to account for missing equipment; determine original cost and location of unaccounted items utilizing purchasing, accounting and departmental files.

Maintain interface with departmental personnel to ensure maintenance of current inventory records of capital equipment.

Inspect and classify space based on functional use and physical characteristics to ensure proper utilization reporting and cost distribution. Provide information and assistance to federal auditors in their audit and review of facilities located at Duke University; conduct special audits of government contract and grant equipment to verify use, condition and existence of equipment as required. Review Federal Government Surplus Yard records to determine if University acquisition records reflect all transactions pertaining to federal surplus equipment; verify cost on government surplus items procured by University departments negotiating directly with the various government agencies.

Schedule audits and inventories at appropriate times for departments' convenience and to maintain a 24 month review cycle.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a general knowledge equivalent to a high school education to acquire comprehensive abilities in reading, mathematics and writing.

Experience

Work generally requires five years of experience providing the opportunity of demonstrating skills to classify, count, estimate or compute.

OR One year of experience as a Facilities Audit Trainee.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
