Occupational Summary

Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of the Duke Golf Club grounds operation to include general grounds maintenance, landscaping, turf grass upkeep and equipment repair; ensure that grounds are in proper condition for sporting events and classes.

Work Performed

Plan, coordinate and supervise activities involved in preservation of the golf course to include general grounds maintenance, landscaping, turf grass upkeep and grounds keeping equipment repair; review and analyze current operational techniques; make modifications and implement new policies to ensure efficiency and cost reduction; ensure that golf course is in proper condition for sporting events and classes.

Determine and supervise spraying schedule of fertilizer, weed control, insecticides and disease control.

Determine grounds keeping equipment needs and recommend purchase specifications for new equipment; maintain inventory of equipment, replacement parts and grounds keeping supplies; plan and monitor preventive maintenance schedule.

Plan, schedule and monitor work of grounds maintenance personnel to ensure proper distribution of workload and timely completion of tasks.

Prepare operational reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate conclusions and recommendations; plan short and long range goals.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations for grounds maintenance operation.

Recommend various personnel actions including but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education plus two years post secondary training in skilled crafts or trades.

Experience

Work requires four years experience in landscaping, maintaining grounds, turf grass upkeep, grounds keeping equipment repair or related to acquire skills necessary to coordinate and supervise the day to day maintenance operations of the golf club grounds.
