Occupational Summary

Coordinate the financial aid program for graduate students at Duke University to include administration of loans, fellowships, scholarships, assistantships and other types of aid, monitoring and supervision of related accounting activities, advising graduate school departments on financial aid issues, and supervising the preparation of the monthly withholding exempt payroll.

Work Performed

Coordinate financial aid programs for graduate students to include graduate awards, federal loans, work study program, federal agency programs and private foundation funds; administer rules and regulations set forth by the Federal Government and funding agencies to include interpretation, implementation and monitoring. Administer graduate awards allocations; coordinate programs with University officials and outside agencies; advise academic departments concerning graduate financial assistance.

Supervise and participate in accounting functions related to graduate student financial aid; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; supervise the preparation of monthly withholding exempt payroll from all University departments; process related accounting and payroll forms. Prepare reports and compile information concerning graduate student financial aid for utilization by University officials and Federal agencies.

Counsel graduate students concerning financial aid programs, policies and procedures; answer inquiries from applicants.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires analytical and communication skills as well as familiarity with the academic setting generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires three years experience in administering student financial aid programs at a college, university or private school.
