Occupational Summary

The Human Resources Director provides expertise and leadership in support of overall organizational effectiveness, change initiatives, strategic plan development and execution, and organizational structure. Serves as an executive level business partner, providing guidance in the areas of culture, leadership, change management, compensation, talent management, employee relations, employee engagement, and diversity/inclusion. Understands the pulse of the organization and influences at all levels.

Work Performed

Develops and directs the implementation of HR strategies to meet organizational goals while optimizing the use of time and resources, and fostering an engaged, healthy and resilient workforce that is both diverse and inclusive.

Oversees and directs the implementation of HR policies, processes and practices to maximize human capital development.

Serves as a member of the DCRI Senior Management Team. This team is responsible for determining and driving the vision, strategy, operational execution, work culture, academic productivity, organizational structure and financial performance of the DCRI.

Represents the DCRI in interactions with Duke University Corporate Human Resources, partnering with them to garner support for DCRI HR needs and help shape Duke wide initiatives.

Provides expertise in all aspects of human resources management, ensuring the development and execution of human capital strategies in alignment with the business strategy and management objectives of the organization.

Responsible for leading efforts to create and sustain a progressive, high performance, high impact work culture one that successfully attracts, retains and engages the talent needed to achieve the institutes mission.

Monitors the organizational and management environment of the DCRI in order to foster a work culture characterized by accountability, inclusion, and work-life balance and maximize efficiencies gained through a scalable workforce.

Leads programs and initiatives to promote a sense of organizational identity and community.

In collaboration with Communications, develops employee communication approaches to foster a clear understanding of the DCRIs mission, vision and guiding principles.

Guides the development of transparent career ladders and mechanisms for developing and retaining talent in a manner that appropriately differentiates levels of complexity and specialized knowledge while ensuring consistency and equity across the institution.

Leverages staff, systems and financial resources to support the ongoing recruitment, early engagement, and long term retention of staff as top organizational priorities.

Enhances employee voice feedback systems and tools to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information and foster employee satisfaction.

Defines and analyzes HR metrics at the organizational and functional group levels to inform decision making regarding strategic workforce planning, initiative priorities and investments.

Develops and monitors the operational budget for the HR group to align resource use to operational and strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor degree program.

Experience

Work requires seven years of progressive business, administrative and/or supervisory experience, at least four of which is directly related to employee relations, to acquire competence in applying human resource policies and procedures necessary to supervise a segment of the employee relations program. A master degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 years of general experience. The remaining five years of experience must be directly related to the Human Resources field. 5 years of Clinical Research industry experience preferred. Advanced Project Management experience preferred
