Occupational Summary

Reporting to the Director, the Curator will plan, manage, coordinate, and participate in a variety of curatorial and administrative activities involved in the collection and exchange of live animals while promoting Duke Lemur Center (DLC) activities and objectives.

Work Performed

Work with Director to establish goals for colony management and development

Establish and develop communications between DLC and governmental and regulatory agencies, both nationally and internationally, with goal of promoting animal exchange among institutions

Work with DLC Advancement Officer and Director to develop DLC image and mission statement

Interact with Operations Manager and Technical Staff to communicate goals for colony development and management

Coordinate conservation and education activities with Director and Madagascar Specialist

In coordination with Director and Madagascar Specialist, develop and coordinate educational and research opportunities and exchange programs between DLC and international institutions, particularly within Madagascar

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in the sciences programs. Masters degree preferred.

Experience

Work generally requires 3 or more years experience with coordination and participation in specialized activities or projects involving living animal collections.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Extensive knowledge of lemur and other prosimian primate biology and husbandry; experience with Malagasy and/or other conservation organizations; strong diplomatic skills
