Occupational Summary
Analyze overall Duke University administrative operations, procedures and functions to determine feasibility of adapting manual office procedures to computer applications; design and coordinate the development, modification and maintenance of computer programs to effect implementation, revision and continued operation of computer application systems.
Work Performed
Analyze overall University administrative operations, procedures and functions including forms, organizational structures, work coordination and paper flow processes to determine feasibility of adaptation to electronic data processing methods.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of assigned computer personnel in the development, modification and maintenance of computer programs to effect implementation, revision and continued operation of computer application systems.
Develop specifications for data processing systems to include system narratives, data elements, data gathering and verification techniques and methods, accounting and auditing controls, block diagrams, flow charts, decision tables, input output requirements, record and form layouts and processing specifications.
Analyze and interpret organizational and procedural problems; supervise and participate in the design or modification of computer programs to alter existing system; test and debug new programs to verify their accuracy and completeness; prepare flow charts, detailed machine instructions and documentation to implement computer programs and procedures.
Prepare and maintain form and procedure manuals to effect implementation and continuing operation of computer application systems.
Maintain liaison with representatives of other University data processing operations, professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.
Participate in development of long range planning for new projects and facilities, serve in an advisory capacity to University officials on application of data processing procedures and methods.
Provide technical direction to, instruct and coordinate the individual assignments of lower rated analysts programmer and computer programmer personnel.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires Bachelors degree in mathematics or computer science or a computer related field or equivalent coursework or technical training.
Experience
Work requires four years of progressive programming experience which includes experience as a member of a development team implementing a major system and experience in a supervisory capacity.
OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
